You who build these altars now you must not do it anymore
This daily Bird I made as a protest against all wars. So many poor and innocent people, in particular children suffer and die. They are sacrificed every day. Wars are fought on men, not on mothers. Then there would be no or far fewer wars.
Leonard Cohen, the great singer and poet has often sung about this theme. The title of this song is a verse from the song: The story of Isaac.
I used parts of a pleated dress from a fashion magazine. The eye of a young boy and an undefinable object from the old Dutch magazine FOTO.

I’m late I’m late, Alice heard the Rabbit say as he rushed past her.
The dress of this torn paper Bird I found in the feathers of the head in the drwaing: Portrait of Marie Botkin (1900) a red chalk, charcoal and pastel drawing by Odilon Redon.
As I made the Bird it seemed to me the feathers looked like a dress whose skirt dances while she runs. I gave her a dark mask I thought she should go to a Ball.
A rather mysterious and kinky Ball I guess because the eyes of my Bird are a little empty.
All the Birds I make are unique, there is only one of each.

This torn paper Bird I made from the conté drawing by George Seurat: Jeune Fille with a drawing pad (1884). I found the picture of this drawing in one of my old Art magazines.
The Bird suddenly popped up in a part of her Head and Hat and I gave the title: ‘The river runs deep’, a song by J.J.Cale . The song has a spectacular drumsound. The lyric itself is dark and poetic and also became my Bird. I hope you like it as much as I do.

Many people came to the art market on Sunday 3 September and talked about my work. A lady bought my big blackbird ( 70 x 90 cm ) for her son-in-law. The torn paper birds of paper conjured up many smiles and the poetry books were very popular. Many people gave in to the postcards with torn birds.
Result: happy with all the beautiful comments, special conversations and with the sales result of course.
